Shitty First Drafts (an excerpt of a chapter in Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott)

The author says that almost all good writing begins with bad first drafts. As I’m writing my book, I can certainly attest. These terrible first efforts, she argues, lead to clarity and sometimes brilliance in our second and third drafts. An encouraging read for anyone discouraged by their initial efforts.
